Battle Princess: Jinfeng by BloodyWilliam Battle Princess: Jinfeng by BloodyWilliam
About a week or so ago, one of my online pals posted a comic she had started that was all about princesses battling each other to the death. When she said she was looking for interested parties to suggest their own princesses, I was immediately intrigued.

This is my princess, Jinfeng, literally "Golden Wind" in traditional Chinese, my contribution to ~rachelthegreat's [link] call for additions to Battle Princess [link]

Normally my knee jerk reaction to designing ladies goes in the direction of the gothic and medieval European. I blame this Chinese design on the fact that I have been rewatching Avatar: The Last Airbender lately on account of it being awesome. The idea for fans more than likely therefore came from the Kyoshi Warriors, whom I love to pieces. I also thought that fan dancing is an ancient and beautiful tradition, and when called upon to do battle, it would not be too great of a leap to move into kung fu fan fighting. I'm thinking the outer edge of the fans have a metal edge which could be sharpened. I also gave her a couple of stiletto blades in her chignons for use as weapons in a pinch. Yeah, I know the traditional Chinese long dress and such may not be relatively conductive to effective combat, but the average princess fancy garb really isn't.

Of course, this pic is really just a character design for ~rachelthegreat. She can modify it for use in her comic however she sees fit (if she even chooses to use it).

Pencil on paper. Inks, colour, and effects in Adobe Photoshop 7.

Well, I hope your character makes it. She's got a cool design and I love the fans. Do they have a name for the hairstyle of the little things sticking out of her hair buns?

thank you for such kind words!
hm, yanno, if there is an actual name for having hair buns with chopsticks/hairsticks (mine is done with fine daggers because of the comic plot), then i am unaware of it. i actually looked it up before posting to see if there was a proper word for it i ought to be using, and did not find anything online, but i could be using the wrong keywords. i would be most curious to find out if it has a name because i love the look.
