I Heard the Bullroarer

Description

I drew this as an entry in the Monthly Gargoyles Art Contest [link] which is sadly now closed.
The theme for this contest was Gargoyles "Down Under" so I imagined what an Aboriginal Gargoyle may look like. I used LOADS points of reference for this thing. I looked up photos of Australian Aboriginal people and that's where the body paint comes from. I checked out bullroarers to know more about them, and YES I KNOW my bullroarer looked more like a North American one than an Australian one. That's artistic aesthetics and license at work, people! I also did location "scouting." Bullroarers can be used to communicate over long distances, so I thought a cliff or valley would do nicely. She is actually standing on the middle formation of the Three Sisters (it was the easiest to draw), which is part of the Blue Mountains in New South Wales and sending a message across the Jamison Valley.
Titled after the Midnight Oil song.
It didn't win the contest.
Pencil and Micron inks on paper, colours and effects in Corel Draw 11 and Adobe Photoshop 7. Jamison Valley created entirely freehanded in Adobe Photoshop 7.

I like the point that every painting of yours have many thoughts behind. Everything means something.
