Modern Day Rippers - 'Doing the Lord's Work' by BloodyWilliam Modern Day Rippers - 'Doing the Lord's Work' by BloodyWilliam
The lead singer of Chicago punk band Modern Day Rippers is an old high school friend of mine, so when he needed some album art last minute he contacted me to see if I could help. I had a good feel for what he wanted as he had some designs from an artist who had backed out, so I felt like it wouldn't be too tricky to fill in the gaps. He specified "bright colors and a 1980s look" with religious symbols. The head in the middle is their mascot character, which I drew before on their previous album, "Rip it Up in a Modern Way," as seen here: bloodywilliam.deviantart.com/a… I added the stripes on his cheeks in going for a kind of new romantic face make up like Adam Ant or when Duran Duran is hungry like the wolf. My friend seemed really happy with the final product. I like it, too, but every time I look at it, I see things I would have done slightly differently. Ah well.

The digital version is in RGB color, so when printed in CMYK the colors are a bit muted. Still looks pretty keen, though. I have a copy on pink 12" vinyl and it is glorious. You can buy your own copy from Self Destructo Records here:

Watermarked as it is a commercial project. Please don't steal.
